Acrylic Paints Our Liquitex BASICS line is perfect for students and artists on a budget. They are intermixable with all Liquitex Professional acrylic colors and are ideal for learning color theory and mixing. Hampton Photo Arts offers Amsterdam acrylics in twenty-four colors. Amsterdam has good variation in opacity and transparency, is free from heavy metals and is made from 100% recycled plastic. The bottles have narrow necks for easy dispensing and the cap can be unscrewed leaving a large enough opening for large brushes and palette knives. Grumbacher acrylic paints are the most versatile and affordable Hampton Photo Arts has to offer. Thinned with water, this paint can be applied in translucent layers to achieve a watercolor look. Straight from the tube, or thickened with a medium, this paint can attain the same look as oil. Ideal for professional artists and student alike. Watercolor Paints Grumbacher Academy watercolor paints are ideal for students & price-conscious artists. This paint offers a soft consistency out of the tube and is perfect for outdoor painting. For more discerning artists, Hampton Photo Arts offers our M. Graham collection. These watercolors are created in an old-fashioned binding medium of pure gum Arabic and natural blackberry honey. This watercolor offers strong, deep color alive with intensity that can be easily diluted for smooth, controlled washes. The natural honey absorbs moisture from the air, which prevents the paint from hardening in the tube or on the palette. For the artist on the go, Hampton Photo Arts offers Reeve’s Watercolor Pan set. Perfect for outdoor sketching, the set contains 12 professional colors and comes complete with a pony hair brush. This set is both easy to use and easy to clean with soap and water. If you’re looking for high quality at an economical price, Hampton Photo Arts provides Winsor & Newton Winton Oil Colors, which are available in 49 carefully selected colors for your painting needs. Perfect for students, beginners and those who require a large volume of color at a reasonable price. Reeves Introduction To Oils set will be appreciated by artists just beginning in an oil medium. This deluxe set offers fourteen 12ml tubes of oil color, one HB pencil, a double sharpener, a putty rubber, two ponybrushes and a mixing palette, all conveniently arranged in an attractive, durable wooden box. If you’re looking to prime before you paint or plan to do a large wash, you need our Bristle Gesso brushes. These natural goat hair brushes hold and carry a large amount of water and are perfect for watercolor foliage and backgrounds. For fine, detailed work, Hampton Photo Arts suggests our synthetic miniature detail brushes. These brushes offer a strong non-slip grip and are perfect for acrylic or watercolor painting. The watercolor artist will appreciate our selection of Princeton sable brushes. These attractive brushes are ensconced in metal ferrules and boast kolinsky sable for excellent spring and color retention. Canvas Hampton Photo Arts offers both traditional and gallery wrap to showcase artwork. Both wrap choices stretch the canvas around wood bars to provide a finished work. While gallery wrap offers a slight view of the piece from the side, without staples. Pre streched canvas is available in a spectrum of sizes, shapes and quality.
Whether you’re looking to clean soiled paintings, restore the luster of older artwork or protect your just-finished creation, Hampton Photo Arts has the mediums you need. Our Artists Picture Cleaners are solvents that will dilute paints and clean your soiled paintings and brushes. Retouch the dull patches on your oil paints with our Damar retouching varnish. This varnish can also be used as temporary protection of recently painted oil and alkyd pieces. Protect your prized watercolors with our Krylon UV resistant clear coating. Moisture resistant and smudge-proof, this coating can also be used on watercolor, fabric, pencil and charcoal drawings, photography and more. The Paint Color Chart |
Experience has taught us that certain combinations of colors, whether in nature or art, affect the eye and mind agreeably, while others give offense. We call the former "harmonies," the latter "discords."

How to make your own oil paints |
Oil paints are made basically by mixing cold-pressed Linsed oil with pigment or color until a smooth buttery paint is produced. When the oil paint is used and applied to a surface the oil oxidizes or absorbs air and then forms a solid film that binds the pigment to the surface of the painting.
